Gemotions

The late evening light cast a warm glow across the living room, but the warmth did nothing to soothe the sudden chill that had gripped him. He knew something was wrong as soon as he stepped inside. The silence was too perfect. His senses, all of them, were on high.

He found her in the study, surrounded by books. A language, his language, was coming out of her mouth. He could feel his heart begin to pound. He took a single step into the room.

"Olá, meu amor," she said, her Portuguese precise and elegant. He felt like his stomach had fallen into his shoes. He felt a need to sit down.

He managed to speak. “What… why are you speaking…?”
