The review called his fusion cuisine "a mess." Chef Kenji felt the familiar thrumming in his ears. He crumpled the paper, the sound loud in the otherwise silent kitchen. He needed an escape, a way to channel the sudden rush of energy coursing through him.

He grabbed his skateboard. He had to move, to be in motion. He slammed open the back door of the restaurant and onto the sidewalk, his wheels spitting out a sharp sound on the pavement. He weaved through the city streets, a blur of motion, letting the wind clear his head and the adrenaline course through his veins.
