Gemotions

The morning light seemed excessively bright as Thomas walked to the mailbox. His senses were heightened, his eyes flitting back and forth. A feeling of restless energy coursed through his veins. There, amongst the usual flyers, was a single envelope, a stark white card with the words "Happy Birthday" in elegant script.

He examined the card, turning it over in his hands. It felt thick and expensive. His jaw tightened. He didn’t recognize the handwriting. He felt a sudden, sharp need to know who sent it.

He went back inside, his movements quick and decisive. He pulled out his phone, ready to call a friend. But then, he paused. He put the phone back down. He needed to think. He needed to wait.
