The previous owners had left a collection of antique keys, scattered across a dusty shelf. Sarah, feeling surprisingly invigorated, had spent the afternoon sorting them. She’d always had a knack for puzzles. One, made of tarnished silver, felt particularly intriguing. It fit perfectly into the ornate escutcheon plate she'd found partially hidden behind a loose brick in the fireplace.

The brick clicked inward, revealing a narrow passageway. An involuntary grin spread across her face. Her chest felt tight with excitement.

"This is it," she breathed. "This is going to be good."
