The hum of the computer filled the small room, but it no longer provided comfort. Mark closed the file, his hands trembling slightly. *Biological Mother - Identified*. He'd been looking for answers. Now he had them, and he wasn't sure how to feel.

He felt a deep sense of disquiet, like a dark cloud had settled in his chest. He rose, unable to stay seated any longer. He went to the window, and stared out. The world seemed normal, but everything inside him was distorted and disarranged.

He walked to the fridge, opened it, closed it. He paced the room. He felt a sudden, almost desperate need to call someone, to connect, to share the burden. But who? His mind was empty.
