The coffee cup trembled in her hand. Maya watched the news report, images of Elias Thorne flickering on the screen. The anchor was discussing the plagiarism allegations, pointing to comparisons between Thorne's bestseller and several lesser-known works. Her hands began to sweat.

She knew. She felt it, even before the specific examples were shown. Her own novella, "Whispers in the Wind," was among the works cited. Her mind struggled to comprehend it all.

Maya set the cup down with a thud. She felt a surge of energy, a need to move, to react. She found herself picking up her phone and she started to dial a number, then stopped, dropping her hand.
