From the moment the elevator stalled, Mark’s mind had been racing. Every possibility, every worst-case scenario, flickered through his imagination like a strobe light. He stood rigidly, his hands clenched into fists at his sides.

“Okay, okay,” he said to his colleague, Susan, his voice tight. “Let’s… let’s analyze the situation.” He gestured wildly around the small space.

He needed to take control. He began a mental checklist: air quality, emergency exits, potential dangers. The silence pressed in on him. He felt like he had ants in his pants.

“Do you know CPR?” he asked suddenly, his gaze intense. He thought about that old first-aid kit in the office - what could they improvise? He felt a need to be prepared.
