The afternoon sun streamed into Karen's office, but she barely noticed. She had retreated into herself, her concentration intense, her fingers flying across the keyboard. She rewrote the same paragraph four times, her face a mask of concentration. Her eyes were fixed on the screen, seeing nothing else.

She had to make the perfect impression. She knew she had the experience, the drive, but the thought of facing her competitor filled her with a nervous energy she struggled to contain. It was difficult to focus, and the quiet hum of the air conditioning made her want to scream.

She finally saved the document and leaned back, letting out a long, slow breath. The relief was only momentary, quickly replaced by a fresh wave of anticipation.
