The cold seeping into Sarah's bones was nothing compared to the chill that swept through her chest. An eviction notice. It was a physical blow, leaving her breathless. Her gaze snapped towards the telephone, then the door, then back to the notice. Every muscle in her body was wound tight, ready to spring. She ran a hand through her already disheveled hair, the gesture more frantic than calming. "What am I going to do?" she whispered, her voice barely audible, the words hanging in the air like a fragile bubble.
