The flickering candlelight cast elongated shadows on the walls of the restaurant. Across the table, Finn smiled, oblivious to the turmoil brewing inside her. His announcement that he was transferring to the London office had landed like a physical blow. She took a sip of water, the cold liquid doing little to ease the tightness in her chest.
