Gemotions

A sharp vibration jolted me upright in bed. My mind immediately went to the source: the massive oak next door. Something wasn't right. I sat perfectly still, listening. Then, a low rumble, followed by the sickening splinter of wood. Adrenaline flooded my system, a cold wave that prickled my skin.

I bounded out of bed, grabbing the first things I saw – my glasses, my phone. The world felt muted, save for the insistent pounding of my pulse. I had to see.

My feet barely touched the ground as I sprinted to the window, throwing it open. The sky was an unforgiving blue. Mrs. Henderson’s prized petunias were crushed.
