Gemotions

Clive felt as though he could climb any mountain. He had a meticulous lesson plan for the next day's history class. He had triple-checked all the facts, diagrams, and historical quotes. A knock on the door, however, interrupted his preparations. It was a former student, now a successful lawyer, holding a small box.

"Mr. Davis," the student said, "I wanted to give you this." He took the gift and set it on his desk. His hands were suddenly unsteady as he carefully undid the ribbon. It was a first edition copy of a book he'd recommended to the class years ago. He felt a thrill of some kind, some kind of electric current, course through him. He found himself chuckling at the memory of a younger version of himself.
