Gemotions

The sun was sinking, casting long shadows across my yard. The peaceful ambiance was disrupted by a knock on my door. I was immediately on edge, my pulse quickened.

It was Sarah, her usual relaxed smile strained. She clasped her hands nervously in front of her.

"Hey, Liam," she began, her tone gentle but hesitant. "I was wondering if I could… maybe… put in a small garden bed along the back fence. Just a little one."

My gaze darted around the carefully arranged space, my eyes taking in every detail. I was aware of my own rapid breathing.

"A garden?" I repeated, my voice sounding unfamiliar even to my own ears. The sudden request felt like an unwelcome intrusion, disrupting the carefully constructed order of my life.

I felt a sudden compulsion to act, to do something, anything. I took a step backward, away from the door.
