Rain lashed against the window of Elara’s small studio. She barely registered it. Across the table, a stranger – a man with a gentle smile and a sleeve of intricate linework – unbuttoned his shirt. There, on his shoulder, was the hummingbird she'd spent a year perfecting. A gasp escaped her.

She rose from her chair, her legs suddenly weak, and walked towards him slowly. "May I…?" she whispered, extending a tentative hand. He nodded. Touching the tattoo, feeling the texture of the ink against his skin, was a surreal experience. She felt a lightness within her, a sensation like soaring.
