“Mr. Henderson, this is impossible. The results… they indicate you’ve given birth to twins,” the doctor said, sounding utterly perplexed. George Henderson, a man of fifty-two years, looked at the doctor, then down at his own stomach, round and slightly protruding from years of enjoying fine food. He burst into laughter.

The sound echoed through the sterile examination room, bouncing off the white walls. It was a release, a fizzing internal explosion. He felt lighter, as if the weight of his routine, the burdens of his life, had magically vanished. His shoulders shook with mirth; he felt as if he could fly.
