"There appears to have been an error," the nurse said gently, handing the chart to Mark. "Your records...contain information about a severe, debilitating disease. Information that, of course, isn’t yours." Mark read the words – the grim details of another person’s suffering. Then, he looked up, a slow smile spreading across his face.

He felt a tremor run through him, a strange, electric buzz. He felt… invigorated. His vision seemed clearer, the world around him sharper, more vivid. He took a deep breath, the air filling his lungs with a sudden sweetness. He felt a powerful, almost overwhelming surge of *something*, a sensation that lifted him out of his chair and made him want to burst into song.
