Gemotions

The soft glow of the laptop illuminated Emily's face. Across the table, James was hunched over, pen in hand, diligently copying down words in Cyrillic script. Her breath caught in her throat. The script, so familiar, so intrinsically connected to her heritage, filled the room.

He didn't look up, focused on the task at hand, his brow furrowed in concentration. She saw the effort, the determination etched on his face, the way his tongue twisted around the unfamiliar sounds. A wave of a strange, warm feeling washed over her.

She had always gently encouraged him to learn Russian, but she never imagined it would manifest this way. This tangible expression of love and commitment.

He looked up and gave her a shy smile.

She choked on her own saliva, and it took her a long moment to respond. "What... what's this?"

James just shrugged and went back to his work. Emily smiled and reached over to trace one of the letters in his notebook.
