A wave of dizziness washed over Kevin as he read the sign taped to the glass door. "The Daily Grind: Farewell." It felt like the ground had shifted beneath his feet. He felt his head spinning.

He had spent countless mornings at The Daily Grind, savoring the perfect coffee and the comfortable ambiance. He felt a sense of unreality, a strange dissociation from his own body. He had known the staff for years.

He ran a hand through his hair, a futile gesture of disbelief. It was all a mistake, wasn’t it? He felt a strange lightness, as if he were floating outside of himself, watching the scene from a distance. The thought that his favorite place would disappear filled him with a strange emptiness.
