The pickup truck rumbled to a halt on the overgrown drive. Dust billowed around Elara's boots as she stepped out, her gaze locked on the house. Sunlight glinted off the cracked windows, and the peeling paint seemed to whisper secrets she couldn’t quite decipher. A slow smile spread across her face.

She took a deep breath, the scent of damp earth and decaying leaves filling her lungs. Her fingers itched to reach out and touch the familiar brickwork of the porch. A giggle escaped her, a high-pitched sound she hadn't realized she was capable of anymore.

"Wow," she breathed, her voice barely a whisper. She circled the house, each step a carefully measured journey through time. The swing set, rusted and silent, still stood in the backyard, and the memories of her childhood days flooded back. They were like a tidal wave.
