Standing before the house, Emily ran her hand over the weathered wood of the fence. This was the place where she grew up. Where she first fell in love. Where she had her heart broken. It was… a lot.

The house, stripped of the vibrant life it once knew, seemed to stare back at her. She felt compelled to circle it, to memorize every detail. The broken window, the cracked chimney, the overgrown garden.

Her pulse quickened. She felt a lightness in her chest, a strange exhilaration. She took a deep breath, and the scent of earth and decay filled her lungs. She looked up at the sky, her eyes filled with wonder.
