The news broke as Thomas was about to sign copies of his own debut novel at a local bookstore. The headline flashed across the screen of the TV behind him: "Finch Accused of Plagiarism." Thomas blinked, momentarily confused. He knew Finch’s work intimately, practically having memorized all his books. He felt a tremor go through him, a strange electrical current shooting up his arms.

He watched the reporter explain the details, detailing the similarities between a short story of his, and Finch's new release. He felt a lightness in his stomach. The world seemed to fade at the edges, a tunnel vision taking over.

He swallowed hard, turning to his assistant. He could barely get the words out. "I... I need to sit down." He moved towards a nearby chair, feeling as if the floor had begun to undulate beneath his feet.
