"Absolutely not, Ben," Amelia declared, folding her arms. The cage sat on the kitchen counter, empty. Ben stared at it with his mouth open.

He had promised her, yes, but he'd also found a tiny, fluffy hamster at the rescue shelter. He'd never felt like this before. The hamster’s potential, to be able to have such a friendly creature around.

It was, in fact, something he'd never imagined. He'd gone out of his way to find one, and seeing it would change her mind. He was sure of it. He pictured the hamster scurrying in its cage. He cleared his throat. "Please, Amelia? He's so small, he doesn't take up much space."
