The familiar scent of cinnamon and coffee, usually a source of comfort, now felt like a cruel irony. Seated across from him, she watched him sip his latte, his gaze meeting hers with a polite, vacant curiosity. “I’m afraid I don’t recall a thing,” he said, his voice gentle. A peculiar, unsettling calm settled over her.

She’d relived their shared history in her mind countless times. Now, those memories felt tainted, as if she was the only one who had the ability to remember them.

Her chest felt tight, her breathing shallow. The cafe's chatter seemed to amplify, a discordant symphony. Her hands, usually restless, lay still on the table. She wanted to scream.
