Liam stared at the faded stationery. His father. A typed letter, crisp despite its age. He had always known his father as a stoic, dependable man, a pillar of the community. This letter, a resignation from his long-held position, felt like a secret whispered from the grave.

His jaw dropped a little. The language, so unlike anything he remembered his father saying, was filled with a fiery passion, a righteous anger at the company's unethical practices. He could not believe his eyes. He had known his father had left that job, of course, but he’d always been told it was a ‘mutual parting of ways’.

Liam began pacing his childhood bedroom, the letter a crumpled talisman in his hand. He hadn't realized how much he had missed out on. Now he had a whole new perception of his father, a man he had thought he knew so well. He ran his hand through his hair, a nervous gesture he never realised he'd inherited.
