Gemotions

The words hung in the air, suspended like dust motes in a sunbeam. Across the small, cluttered kitchen table, Liam's mouth was still moving, but the sounds were just… noise. He felt a peculiar lightness, a giddy sensation as if the floor had tilted and he was about to slide off into space. He blinked, focusing on the chipped paint on the tabletop. He could practically feel the warmth of the sun on his face, the cool breeze swirling around him as he watched the leaves on the trees blowing in the wind. That can't be right, can it?

He took a shaky breath. "Across the country?" he managed, his voice cracking slightly. A ridiculous grin spread across his face, even though his stomach had begun to churn. He wanted to laugh, he wanted to scream, he wanted to run. Anything but sit still.

Liam's hand flew up to his mouth, covering a gasp. He looked at the window again. That's a lot of nothing, to just have someone leave.
