The strident rap on the door startled Leo from his coding. He stumbled, knocking over his half-empty mug of lukewarm coffee. A woman with tightly-wound blonde hair stood on his porch, her face pinched. "Do you have any idea how loud your… *music* is?" she said, her voice a sharp edge.

Leo gaped, his hands flying up to his chest. He hadn’t realized. He’d been lost in the algorithmic beauty of his project, headphones on, the volume cranked. The sheer power of the sound, apparently, had escaped his notice.

He stammered an apology, instantly picturing the intricate music system he’d built in his living room. He'd poured months of work into it. He felt his cheeks grow warm as he imagined the music spilling out into the world. He wanted to shout about the speakers. He wanted to tell her about the subwoofers.
