The sound of knocking reverberated through the quiet house. Sarah peered through the peephole to find Ms. Periwinkle, the notoriously reclusive woman next door, standing on her porch. Sarah’s stomach lurched slightly. What could she possibly want?

Ms. Periwinkle, usually shrouded in dark clothing, was today wearing a floral print dress. "Sarah, dear," she began, her voice unusually soft, "about the pine… on the boundary… I was considering… having it cut."

Sarah felt a peculiar tingling sensation spread from the tips of her fingers to her toes. Her mind whirred, struggling to comprehend this turn of events. She fumbled with the door handle, her knuckles turning white. The words of the elderly neighbor were completely at odds with her expectations.
