"Hello, Ms. Evans," the voice was slightly muffled through the screen door. Maya hesitated, then opened it to find Mr. Chen, a gardening book clutched to his chest. He cleared his throat and asked, "Would it be... alright... if I used a small space of your garden for growing some herbs?"

A shiver of excitement danced through her. The bland, routine days had become infused with a fresh, vibrant possibility. Her hands felt itchy, wanting to get in the dirt. Suddenly, the world was full of color and fragrance.

"That would be wonderful!" she responded, her voice filled with a surprising eagerness. "I've always wanted to learn more about herbs." She felt as though she could fly.
