Gemotions

The coffee machine gurgled ominously as I pointed to the various buttons on the device. My shoulders bounced slightly. I felt a pleasant warmth in my stomach as I explained the intricacies of the office espresso maker to Kevin, my successor.

“The secret,” I whispered, leaning in conspiratorially, “is the double shot, but only on Tuesdays. Otherwise, it overpowers the afternoon biscuits.” I saw his eyes widen with a mix of awe and bewilderment.

His questions were wonderfully predictable. I replied with all the earnestness I could muster, which was… considerable. I clasped my hands behind my back, the image of him pouring himself a cup of coffee filling my mind.
