He had always found it fascinating, watching her speak with her family, the melodic lilt of her language weaving through their conversations. He was in the kitchen, making coffee, when he heard a muffled sound coming from the living room.

He peeked around the corner and saw her, seated on the sofa, a textbook open on her lap. Her brow was furrowed in concentration as she whispered phrases to herself. Her pronunciation, though imperfect, was clearly improving.

He couldn't help but grin. He walked over and sat beside her. "May I join your class?" he asked, his tone laced with mischief. She blushed, but couldn’t hide the smile that spread across her face.
