The woman with the bright pink sunglasses looked at the bear with a raised eyebrow, then back at Clara. "You sure you want that old thing? It’s seen better days." Clara just stared, her heart thumping in her chest. The bear, fluffy no longer, but familiar, was sitting under a table.

Clara knelt down, the wooden floorboards creaking beneath her weight. She ran a hand over the bear's matted fur, a giggle bubbling up. She remembered every tear she had cried on this bear's shoulder, every secret she'd whispered to its button eyes.

“I do,” Clara finally managed, her voice a little higher than usual. She pulled out a ten-dollar bill. “How about ten?” The woman chuckled, taking the money.
