Gemotions

The afternoon sun streamed through the window as she settled into her favourite armchair, a cup of tea by her side. She'd just purchased a used copy of "Wuthering Heights" from a street vendor. She had high hopes for this, her favorite book.

A stiff piece of paper slipped out, landing in her lap. It was a shopping list, scrawled in a frantic hand. "Butter, flour, eggs. And, oh yes, remember to dump Heathcliff, darling." She giggled, a genuine sound of enjoyment.

The last item on the list caused her to laugh out loud, a genuine, hearty sound. She imagined the writer, exasperated with romance and the trials of daily life. The whole thing was absurdly wonderful. She tucked the shopping list back into the book, smiling to herself.
