The email notification chimed, a little ping in the otherwise silent afternoon. Penelope clicked it open, fully expecting another newsletter trying to sell her something. Instead, the subject line read: "AncestryDNA Results – Possible Kin Found!" A giggle bubbled up from her chest. Well, this was certainly a twist.

She swiveled in her chair, a playful grin stretching across her face. Who knew that spittle in a vial could unlock such drama? She scrolled through the results, her eyes dancing over the family tree. A distant cousin, a fourth cousin... and then, a close match. A first cousin. Now, that was interesting.

Penelope picked up her phone, dialing her mother's number. “Hey, Mom,” she began, her voice brimming with delight. “Remember that DNA test I took? Yeah, about that…”
