It was a strange feeling, this gentle surge of elation. The investigation had ended. The proof of plagiarism was there: his, Jasper Kane’s, previously unpublished work had been appropriated by the literary heavyweight, Victoria Sterling. He grinned, running a hand over his stubbled chin. He felt a strange sort of release, as though a heavy burden had been lifted from his shoulders. He reached for his notepad and began sketching out a few ideas for a new story, a delicious revenge plot.
