He picked up the letter, carefully, almost reverently. His own handwriting, neat and precise, but filled with a youthful exuberance. The letter, a proposal of marriage, was addressed to the woman who would eventually become his wife. He chuckled quietly.

He remembered writing it, the nervous anticipation, the hope that swelled his chest. He read the heartfelt words, the declarations of love and devotion. The past was wonderfully, unexpectedly, clear.

A warmth spread through him. He looked over at his wife, sitting across the room. He felt a profound sense of gratitude, and a secret, private enjoyment. He’d frame this one, too.
