The silence, broken only by the sporadic clicks of the elevator controls, was unbearable. However, Ben found it impossible to stay serious. He watched Michelle, his colleague, try to call the maintenance, her voice pitched high with increasing frustration. He was experiencing a feeling like he could fly.

He took a slow, deep breath, trying to calm down his giggles. The situation demanded seriousness, but he was finding it difficult. He pictured all the ways he would tell this to his wife at dinner. She wouldn’t believe it.

He thought he might explode with some kind of laughter. He leaned against the wall, trying to find a way to contain this strange, lighthearted feeling. He hoped he would not be the only one laughing when they got out.
