The news hit David like a playful shove. Professor Singh was leaving. He blinked, re-reading the email. The news brought a spring to his step as he walked across campus.

The man had been a whirlwind of contradictory advice and impossible expectations. The end of the era meant a new beginning. He saw the prospect of an advisor who was more aligned with his research interests. He imagined the reaction of his fellow students, the collective sigh of relief. He felt an urge to skip, and almost did. This was simply wonderful.
