Gemotions

The email sat in Eleanor’s inbox, subject line: “DNA Results.” She snorted, imagining the drama of it all. Mom had taken a DNA test to learn more about her ancestry, and now, apparently, she’d uncovered some kind of family secret. Eleanor clicked it open, a grin spreading across her face. “Dear Eleanor,” the email began. “The test revealed you have a half-sibling…” Eleanor burst out laughing, picturing her mother’s expression.

She scrolled down to the attached document. A name. A picture. A city on the opposite side of the country. This was getting good. She pictured the awkward holiday dinners that were sure to follow.

Eleanor's fingers drummed a happy rhythm against her desk. This was going to be an interesting adventure. She could almost taste the gossip already. She quickly forwarded the email to her best friend with the subject line, "Buckle Up, Buttercup."
