Sarah adjusted her glasses, peering at the small plaque on the therapist’s door. “Dr. Damien Hayes, PhD, LPC.” Hayes, the same kid who used to steal her lunch money and call her names. A bubble of suppressed laughter seemed to rise from her belly. She clasped her hands together, a faint tremor in her fingers. This was simply too good.

Inside, Damien looked older, his hair thinner, his face etched with a look of, well, seriousness. He gestured towards the couch, a professional smile plastered on his face. She allowed herself a small, delicate cough, covering her mouth with her hand.

"So," Damien said, his voice a little too smooth, "what brings you in today?"

Sarah leaned back, considering. She crossed her legs, carefully. "Oh, you know," she began, her voice sugary sweet, "just a few minor anxieties." A tiny, almost imperceptible twitch played at her lips. This was going to be fun.
