Gemotions

The dinner conversation had gone stale, replaced by an uneasy silence. His brother, Jake, had announced his embrace of Sikhism. He felt a tightness in his throat, making it difficult to swallow. The food sat heavy in his stomach. He pushed his plate away, the sound of the silverware scraping against the porcelain grating on his nerves. He wanted to yell, to argue, to make Jake see the error of his ways, but the words wouldn't come. He got up abruptly, his chair clattering to the floor behind him.
