The air in the car was thick with unspoken tension. He gripped the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles were bloodless. She sat beside him, nervously twisting her engagement ring. He'd found the messages earlier, a string of coded phrases and affectionate emojis that screamed infidelity. The highway stretched before them, a ribbon of asphalt leading away from their shared life. He wanted to turn the car around, to confront her, to scream until his voice gave out. He just kept driving.
