The pristine order of the guest room felt like a deliberate insult. John, his hands clenched into fists, surveyed the scene. His mother, the woman who had always seemed so perfect, had left behind this legacy of…stuff.

He looked at a folder labeled, "John's Brilliant Ideas." He felt a bitter taste in his mouth. He flipped it open. Inside were countless sheets of paper filled with his childhood dreams: elaborate inventions, business plans, revolutionary ideas. The naiveté was almost unbearable.

He threw the folder across the room, the sound muffled by the carpet. He took a step back, breathing heavily. He felt a powerful urge to shatter something. The room spun slightly.
