The friend request from Kevin Peterson… it was like a slap. John felt his face flush. He was in the middle of a meeting, and now he had to try to compose himself. He wanted to throw his phone across the room.

He glared at the tiny notification. Peterson. The name carried with it a flood of humiliation. The whispered ridicule, the constant put-downs. John’s vision blurred with heat.

He excused himself from the meeting, his voice tight. Once he was in the empty hallway, he leaned against the wall, taking deep breaths. He felt a deep ache in his chest, a heavy pressure, as if someone was physically squeezing him. He was not going to let him… he just wasn't.
