The notification. "Matthew Jones sent you a friend request." The words seemed to jump off the screen and punch him in the gut. Daniel let out a low, involuntary groan. This was a violation.

He gripped his chair, knuckles white. The memories flooded back, the feeling of being small, worthless. He wanted to run, to escape. He could almost feel Matthew’s cold, cruel gaze on him. He felt trapped.

He had spent years trying to move on, to heal. And here it was, the past resurrected, demanding attention. He wanted to scream.
