He stared at the email, the words blurring around the salary figure. He could feel a tremor starting in his hands. He'd poured his heart and soul into this company for years, always exceeding expectations. Now this… this slap in the face. He slammed his fist on his desk, the sound echoing in the silent office.

He wanted to scream at the absurdity of it all. He wanted to challenge, to accuse, to *destroy*. He breathed in, trying to regain control.

He needed space. He stood and walked to the window, staring out at the cityscape. The buildings seemed to mock him. He returned to his desk, took a deep breath, and began composing a very pointed email to HR.
