Gemotions

She found the card nestled amidst the other letters, the bright colors mocking her. She opened it, a generic message of well wishes staring back. A wave of ice coursed through her, leaving her feeling brittle and hollow. She wanted to scream, to shatter the silence.

She ripped the card in two, then again, and again, until it was just shreds. She tossed the pieces in the trash, her movements jerky and erratic. She paced, her hands clenched into fists, the air in the room thick and heavy.
