“Unbelievable!” Mark growled, the word barely a whisper, as he unfolded the letter. It was crammed inside a dog-eared copy of *The Odyssey*. A confession. A coward's apology. He crushed the paper in his hand.

He kicked at the coffee table, the wood groaning. His vision swam. He fought the urge to throw the book across the room. The world was spinning. He had wanted a distraction, a calming read. Now, the weight of the words, the blatant disrespect, threatened to crush him.
