The slam of the front door vibrated through the apartment. Liam’s jaw clenched as he kicked off his shoes, the action sharper than necessary. He’d told Chloe, again, that a cat was out of the question. He was allergic, for crying out loud!

His stomach twisted into a hard knot. He stalked towards the kitchen, the scent of the curry she’d cooked clinging to the air, making his nostrils flare with a sudden irritation. The thought of cleaning up cat hair every single day sent a wave of heat up his neck.

He snatched a beer from the fridge, the metal cold against his palm. He popped the top with unnecessary force, the sound echoing in the sudden silence. He needed to relax. He needed her to understand.
