“Are you kidding me?” The words escaped her as a ragged whisper. Chloe re-read the email from her sister, the screen reflecting the fury she felt inside. Her sister, Emily, had decided to organize her own party on the very same day. It was like a personal attack.

She felt a wave of dizziness wash over her, a physical manifestation of her agitation. She felt a burning need to do something, to lash out, to make Emily understand the enormity of her transgression. She grabbed her phone, her fingers trembling as she typed.

She stood abruptly, pacing the room, the knot in her stomach tightening. It was the principle of it, the utter lack of respect. She needed to breathe, to calm down. But it was difficult to do so.
