Gemotions

The press release was a slap in the face. She stared at the screen, her vision blurring. This was after all her hard work, her life. This was the fifth time they’d been acquired in as many years. Her hands were shaking so hard she had trouble clicking the mouse.

She jabbed at the delete key, deleting the email and the associated files. She didn’t want to see it, didn’t want to read it. Then, she picked up her phone and dialed her best friend, the number coming to her without thought. The words tumbled out of her mouth in a torrent, a rapid-fire assessment of the situation.

Her voice cracked as she spoke, the tension in her shoulders screaming at the ceiling. The chair creaked as she shifted back and forth, the cold metal digging into her. There was a knot of unease tightening in her stomach.
